Unionised Moi University lecturers have yet again launched their Strike at the Institution in a move to urge the management and University Counsel to Honour and pay their 2021 to 2025 CBA that they signed four ago.
The Officials said that from today they begin their strike in all Universities across the country vowing that they will not go to the classroom to teach until their CBA is honoured by the government.
Speaking to the Press the Officials converged at the University grounds while demanding for the speed implementation of the deal they signed with the management.
According Dr Busolo Wekesa, the University Academic Staff Union Moi
University chapter Secretary and the chapter chairman Richard Ojukwi ,
the dons have warned the management and counsel to hasten the process
of implementing the CBA or they bring to a halt all learning
activities at the institution of higher learning.
“We shall completely paralyze all the learning programmes unless the
university management and counsel yields to our demands which they have
been postponing for a long time,” said Wekesa.
The secretary accused the University of failing to remit staff money
to banks, Sacco’s insurance and pension despite deducting the same from
their monthly salaries.
The lecturer also lamented that they cannot pay school fees for their children because they don’t have money. Sad state of affairs.
He said that they have been engaging the university vice chancellor over their plight with a view to address the matter
but the response has not been positive.
The university chapter secretary said they have no option, saying that strike is the only language that the government understands ,adding that they should respect the rights of the employees.
saying that no amount of threats and intimidation will silence them
from demanding what is rightfully theirs.
“It is unfortunate to note that the VC and the university counsel are
taking no interest in addressing the university employee’s
grievances. For that matter we have resolved to start picketing daily
as we wait for a final word from our national union officials on the
way forward,” he concluded.
Wekesa said that the CS for education Ogamba Migosi had further said the pending arrears for 2017/2021 would be applied for in the
Supplementary Budget adding that PUCCF had invited UASU to a meeting on Friday 19th September 2025 for the 2025/2029 CBA negotiations. However IPUCCF has yet to give a counter offer nor has it sought SRC advice. The meeting therefore is unlikely to be useful.
