A phone call. A surprise announcement. And a historic shift in tradition. For Chief Principal Juliana Kirui of Moi Girls High School, Eldoret, the release of the 2023 KCSE results wasn’t just another ceremony – it was a day etched in memory for its unexpected twists and turns.
Kirui, calmly relaxing at her home in Kericho, received a call that would change the course of the day. Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang informed her of a scheduled meeting at Moi Girls, with an entourage including the County Directors of Education from Rift Valley. The purpose? Unstated, but the air crackled with anticipation.
“By evening, it became clear that the purpose of the meeting was the release of the 2023 KCSE exam results by the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, and had to travel over 138Km back to her school” Kirui recalls, a smile lighting up her face. The news sparked a rush of excitement within the school. This year, the release ceremony was breaking tradition, moving away from its usual Nairobi setting and choosing Moi Girls as the momentous stage.
“We had higher expectations, hoping that Moi Girls High School would be among the leading ones,” Kirui confides. The school had set a target of 10.56, optimism brimming amidst the buzz of preparation. Their faith, she says, lay firmly in God’s hands, ready to embrace whatever outcome awaited.
But the shift to their own school grounds added an extra layer of significance. This wasn’t just another results day; it was a moment of history in the making. Moi Girls, a beacon of academic excellence, was now the centerstage for a national announcement, etching its name in the annals of Kenyan education.
For Kirui, the day etched itself into memory. The anticipation, the pride, the sheer joy of witnessing this historic event unfold within the familiar walls of her school – it was a day that transcended mere results. It was a day of pride, a day of unity, and a day that solidified Moi Girls High School’s place in Kenyan education history.
As the curtain closes on this groundbreaking ceremony, one thing is certain: the 2023 KCSE results release at Moi Girls High School will forever be remembered as a day when tradition shifted, history was made, and a school community basked in the warm glow of anticipation, pride, and the promise of a bright future.
