Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) rising star Clarence Hope has called on his fellow players to have a good spirit as they head out to tackle Embu Sevens this weekend. The event is the fourth event on the 2025 National Sevens Circuit.

The student side has had a rocky start to the campaign. They have been unable to make their mark in the first three rounds. At Driftwood Sevens, their Lurambi-based rivals were eighth. The Prinsloo Sevens proved more challenging to break down, MMUST settling for 16th. At the recently held Christie Sevens, they finished 11th. Despite the tough results, Hope is sure the side can turn their fortunes around.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the young center admitted results had not favored them but called on his teammates to have faith. “We know the results haven’t been in our favor, but we should not allow that to erode our faith,” he said. “As a team, we need to fight for every single game in Embu. We cannot allow ourselves to lose faith. This is our chance to show the real power of MMUST rugby.”

MMUST lastly regained their spot in the Kenya Cup with coach John Asila. At Embu Sevens, they have been slated for Pool D against Kenya Harlequins, Catholic Monks, and Zetech Oaks. It is a tough draw, but the students are set to take it on with renewed energy.

Hope explained that the team has practiced diligently to improve their skills and focus. He noted that while they have respect for all their competitors, they believe in themselves. “The main objective is to come back and give our fans something to celebrate,” he explained.

The Embu Sevens will be a turning point for MMUST. It gives the young team a chance to find consistency once again and make them matter as a competitive team in the sevens league. With faith in their players and guidance of their mentor, the students will look to defy the odds and issue a strong statement in Embu.
