Missing Activist Muteti Mulinge Found in Lukenya

Missing activist Muteti Mulinge has been found in Lukenya, Vocal Africa director Hussein Khalid has confirmed.
Khalid said Mulinge was found at about 3am after he was allegedly dumped in the Lukenya area.
According to Khalid, the activist walked for a long distance before reaching a petrol station, where a Good Samaritan helped him access a phone.
Mulinge then contacted his brother and informed his family that he had been found.
“He is disoriented, weak and injured,” Khalid said in a statement.
The activist was later taken to Sanel Hospital in Mlolongo, where he was receiving medical treatment.
His family, friends and fellow activists were expected at the hospital after receiving news of his whereabouts.
The circumstances surrounding Mulinge’s disappearance remained unclear, including where he had been and how he ended up in Lukenya.
The extent of his injuries was also not immediately known.
Mulinge’s disappearance had sparked concern among his family, friends and human rights defenders, who reported the matter to police and called for urgent efforts to establish his whereabouts.
The development came after a petition was filed at the Milimani Law Courts seeking orders requiring Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin to provide information on Mulinge’s whereabouts.
The petition sought disclosure of records relating to his alleged arrest, custody, transfer, release or processing.
The legal action followed growing concern over the activist’s disappearance and calls for authorities to clarify what had happened to him.
With Mulinge now receiving medical care, attention is expected to turn to his recovery and efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
Authorities had not immediately issued a detailed public statement explaining the events leading to his disappearance or his discovery in Lukenya.
