Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi of National Treasury requested the Orange Democratic Movement ODM Central Management Committee to proceed with Edwin Sifuna’s removal from his Secretary General position because his ongoing presence would result in increasing party conflicts.
Sifuna and his team, according to former ODM chairperson Mbadi, have developed disloyalty because they shifted their support to the United opposition. He stated that Sifuna and his supporters should not be allowed to control party activities for their selfish benefits during his Suba South constituency appearance on Sunday.
“ODM members should be free to leave when they disagree with our policies because their departure shows us their remaining supporters who will go with them,” Mbadi said. He stated Sifuna could no longer remain in his party role because he now advanced another group’s agenda instead of ODM’s. “Sifuna will leave ODM because his current situation already creates conflict. He now promotes the agenda of someone else. Why pretend? You cannot keep him in the party,” he said.
Sifuna showed party leader Oburu Oginga indiscipline according to Mbadi who stated this behavior required the Central Management Committee to handle it urgently. He stated that the party required immediate action to function according to its established rules and foundational values.
The former ODM chairperson dismissed the Linda Wananchi campaign linked to Sifuna Babu Owino and James Orengo as a completely unfounded initiative. He maintained that UDA and ODM would continue their partnership despite what he described as party rebels who work against their-alleged decision to terminate the alliance.
“ODM is a solid party. There is no way it will fail. It will remain solid the way Raila left it,” Mbadi said. He stated that the party would maintain its relationships with supporters to ensure their commitment to Oburu Oginga’s leadership.
