Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is in Spain to finalize a season-long loan move to Barcelona.
The 27-year-old arrived in Catalonia on Sunday night after receiving permission from United to complete the formalities of the transfer.
Images of Rashford arriving in Barcelona on a private jet quickly circulated on social media.
Talks between United and the Spanish club progressed swiftly over the past week, with a deal agreed in principle over the weekend. United have since granted Rashford permission to complete the move, which includes a 12-month loan with an option to buy.
Rashford targets fresh start in La Liga
Joining Barcelona has been Rashford’s preferred option since he declared in December that he was ready for a new challenge, following his exclusion from the squad by United head coach Ruben Amorim.
This marks Rashford’s second consecutive loan spell after a six-month stint with Aston Villa during the second half of last season.
The forward is expected to undergo a medical early this week and could join Barcelona’s preseason tour of Japan and South Korea by Thursday.
If he does, he may face former United teammate Jesse Lingard. Lingard, 32, is entering his second season with K League side FC Seoul, who play Barcelona on July 31.
Pogba, Spanish media react to Rashford’s move
Another of Rashford’s former teammates, Monaco midfielder Paul Pogba, reacted to the move during a conversation with YouTuber IShowSpeed.
“I’m happy for him because they [United] took his number,” Pogba said. “Manchester United are losing a great player. Unlucky for them. It’s great for Barcelona.
“It’s not really Amorim’s fault. If he doesn’t believe in someone… He needs to win. If he doesn’t win, they’re going to sack him.”
Two of Spain’s leading sports newspapers—Mundo Deportivo and Sport—featured Rashford’s arrival on their front pages Monday. Sport’s headline read, “Rashford is already here.”
