Manchester United have formally ended pursuit of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, according to The Athletic, citing the transfer cost as prohibitive. The club has decided not to proceed with efforts to recruit the 24-year-old forward.

United had considered Jackson among a shortlist of striker prospects this summer, alongside Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

However, The Athletic reports that financial constraints have led the club to narrow its focus to just Watkins and Sesko, with Jackson no longer a target.

Jackson, who made the transition from winger to striker last season, scored 10 Premier League goals and contributed five assists. Renowned for his pace and movement into channels, critics have also noted inconsistencies in his finishing.

United, having already bolstered their attack with recent signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, are monitoring potential departures to free funds for additional recruits.

Chelsea reportedly have no immediate intention to sell Jackson, and sources indicate they would demand a premium fee—possibly upwards of £100 million—for any late move in the window.

With Jackson off the table, United are expected to prioritize a move for Watkins, whose proven Premier League record may offer a more cost‑effective solution. Sesko remains under consideration, though Leipzig’s €90 million valuation could prove a barrier.
