Mama Ngina Kenyatta Consoles Odinga Family in Bondo Following Raila’s Death
This was the first time Mama Ngina had visited the family since Raila’s burial, which took place on October 19, 2025, at his rural home.

Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta visited the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at their Opoda Farm residence in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Siaya County, on Thursday, October 30, 2025. This was to convey her condolences to the Odinga family following the death of the veteran opposition leader. This was the first time Mama Ngina had visited the family since Raila’s burial, which took place on October 19, 2025, at his rural home.
Mama Ngina met with Mama Ida Odinga and other members of the family and consoled them as they continued to mourn the loss of the long-serving political icon. Through an appreciation message on their official X account, the Odinga family thanked her for standing with them during this difficult time.
“Thank you, Former First Lady, H.E. Mama Ngina Kenyatta and your family, for joining the nation in mourning and coming home to commiserate with H.E. Mama Ida Odinga and the family of the late Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, CGH,” the family’s statement read.
The arrival of Mama Ngina, the mother of Kenya’s fourth President Uhuru Kenyatta, was warmly received by the Odinga family. Her visit added to the growing list of dignitaries and leaders who have made their way to Opoda Farm to honor Raila’s memory and legacy since his interment.
A day after the burial, on October 20, 2025, former President Uhuru Kenyatta made a personal visit to Raila’s gravesite. During his tribute, Uhuru praised his longtime ally and friend, describing Raila as a principled and selfless leader who spent his life championing democracy, justice, and equality for all Kenyans. He also toured the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum, where he acknowledged the Odinga family’s immense contribution to Kenya’s political transformation and struggle for independence.
Former Ghanaian president visited the Odinga family on October 29, 2025, underlining Raila’s prominence beyond Kenya’s borders. While wishing the Odingas peace, he praised one of Africa’s bravest and most forward-thinking leaders. Senior Kenyan leaders accompanying Akufo-Addo included Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, KANU Chairman Gideon Moi, Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya, and Environment CS Deborah Mulongo. The sustained flow of messages of condolence from local and international leaders underpins the lasting influence of Raila Odinga and the profound respect he commanded across the continent for his unwavering commitment to democratic ideals and justice.
