Major Sting in Eldoret: Police Intercept Vehicle in Latest Crackdown on Illicit Alcohol and Drugs
In a separate Kapsabet operation, three suspects were arrested after police recovered 1,375 litres of suspected ethanol from a vehicle.
Police in Eldoret have intercepted a black Toyota Isis bearing two number plates (KDR 519F and KDK 827U) at Napkoi Junction along the Eldoret–Nakuru highway. During the operation, officers recovered 46 jerricans (30 litres each) of a liquid believed to be ethanol.
Two individuals were arrested on the spot, and the suspects and vehicle have since been escorted to Naiberi Police Station. They are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, 29 September 2025.
“The fight against illicit substances and hard drugs continues,” police said in a statement after the seizure.
In recent months, security agencies in Uasin Gishu have not only intercepted large quantities of illicit ethanol but also confiscated bhang worth millions of shillings in coordinated operations across Eldoret, Turbo, and Kesses sub-counties. The multi-agency team — involving the National Police Service, NACADA and Kenya Revenue Authority — has intensified efforts to block supply routes of banned substances that have been blamed for rising addiction and related crimes in the Rift Valley.
“We are determined to ensure that Uasin Gishu does not become a hub for the trafficking of dangerous drugs or industrial chemicals used to make illicit brews,” County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi recently said during one of the operations.
Earlier this month, officers seized 10 jerricans of ethanol, estimated at KSh 500,000, hidden in the compound of an incomplete house along the Eldoret–Nakuru highway. In a separate Kapsabet operation, three suspects were arrested after police recovered 1,375 litres of suspected ethanol from a vehicle.
Authorities say these crackdowns represent a sustained push to dismantle the supply networks of harmful substances and protect communities, particularly young people, from the health and social dangers of illegal alcohol and drugs.
