Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has sued Kakamega-based blogger George Opunga Tamata over what he terms as false and damaging claims that linked the legislator to the death of Munyuki High School Principal, Simon Isiaho Shange. Nabwera wants compensation for damages to the tune of Ksh.20 million, a public apology, and removal of all offending posts.

The case filed through Danstan Omari & Associates Advocates at the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court, also includes a certificate of urgency. The MP is seeking court orders to compel the blogger to retract all defamatory content, issue a written apology, and desist from posting any other writings about him.

According to court documents, Nabwera alleges that on October 3, 2025, the blogger distributed posts on multiple Facebook pages—Kakamega Post, Malava Online, and Lugari Watchdog—suggesting that the MP was involved in the mysterious disappearance and subsequent death of the school principal.

One of the posts allegedly stated that the teacher “vanished after defying an MP,” while another implored the legislator to “come clean on the death of this teacher.” Nabwera insists that the statements were false, malicious, and intended to portray him as a criminal.

“The publications have incited individuals who have since issued threats to invade my home in Lugari,” MP stated in his affidavit. He further argued that the posts were politically motivated and aimed at undermining his integrity and public standing.

The legislator added that Tamata has not responded, retracted, or apologized for the false publication to date, despite his legal team sending a demand letter on November 8, 2025. Nabwera said the defamatory posts have incited the online community, putting his family in danger and grossly damaging his image.

He has attached evidence to the suit, including screenshots of the posts, a demand letter, and online messages allegedly calling for attacks on his residence. Nabwera also confirmed that the late principal’s body was later recovered from River Kipkaren, adding that he had personally conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and urged calm as investigations proceed.

Nabwera is also seeking a permanent injunction barring the blogger from further publishing any more defamatory materials, a public retraction and an apology, besides general damages of Ksh.20 million for the harm caused to his character and reputation. The case underscores growing concerns about online defamation and the misuse of social media platforms to spread unverified and harmful allegations against public figures.
