Liverpool are on the verge of completing a sensational €130 million (£109 million) transfer for Bayer Leverkusen’s star midfielder Florian Wirtz, in what would become the most expensive signing in the club’s history .

The 22-year-old German international has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Reds, favoring a move to Anfield over interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City .

Wirtz’s decision is said to be influenced by Liverpool’s vision under manager Arne Slot, who has outlined a central role for him in the team’s future .

The proposed deal includes a guaranteed fee of around €100 million, with additional performance-related bonuses bringing the total package to €130 million .

Wirtz enjoyed a stellar 2024–25 season, contributing 16 goals and 14 assists as Leverkusen finished second in the Bundesliga . His performances have established him as one of Europe’s most promising attacking talents.

If finalized, this transfer would surpass Liverpool’s previous record signing of Darwin Núñez and could potentially set a new British transfer record, eclipsing the £115 million Chelsea paid for Moisés Caicedo .

The move comes amid significant changes at Anfield, with right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmed to be joining Real Madrid for £10 million .

Liverpool are also reportedly close to signing Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a replacement, further strengthening their squad ahead of the new season.
