Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has accused current Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku of accepting a Ksh5.2 million bribe to orchestrate his impeachment.

Linturi made these claims during an interview with Weru TV on Sunday, April 21, expressing disappointment over Ruku’s alleged betrayal, especially given their shared regional background.

Linturi alleged that the then Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua confronted Ruku about the matter, obtaining a list of 83 individuals involved in the impeachment efforts.

Gachagua reportedly shared this list with Linturi, highlighting the extent of the campaign against him.

The former CS also criticized Ruku’s appointment as Public Service CS, suggesting it was merely to fill a vacancy rather than to serve the Kenyan populace effectively.

He contrasted Ruku’s appointment with that of his predecessor, Justin Muturi, implying that Ruku lacks the necessary experience and commitment.

Addressing his own impeachment, Linturi maintained that it was not due to nonperformance. He asserted that even his critics acknowledged his contributions, indicating that political motivations were at play.

Furthermore, Linturi expressed concerns about the autonomy of Cabinet Secretaries within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He claimed that ministers often have little say in appointments, with decisions being made without their input and merely presented to them for endorsement.

These revelations come in the wake of Linturi’s survival of an impeachment motion in May 2024, where a parliamentary committee found the allegations against him unsubstantiated. The motion, initiated by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, centered on a counterfeit fertilizer scandal.
