The Likoni Community has been crowned the 2024 South Coast 5s Champions, defeating the defending champions, Karen Crusaders, in a thrilling final at Safari Beach Hotel in Diani on Sunday.
The Likoni-based team took the lead just before halftime when their player, Odera, identified a gap in the midfield and swiftly broke through to score. In the second half, Likoni sealed their victory with a late try by Purin Kaka, who skillfully evaded his opponents and dove under the posts for the winning score.
Safari Beach Hotel, the event hosts, won the plate by defeating Team Perez 3-0 in the playoff match, with three tries securing a decisive victory. In the shield competition, the Explorers triumphed by scoring four tries against the Safaricom Queens.
Shajanand Kisumu emerged victorious in sudden death, defeating Karen Crusaders 2-1 after the teams were tied 1-1 in regular time.
With both on-field action and off-field entertainment, attention now shifts to the 2025 edition, scheduled to take place at Safari Beach Hotel in July.
