The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has launched a new e-registration platform to govern the registration and licensing of medical professionals and facilities across the country.

The digital system, part of KMPDC’s long-term strategy to enhance transparency and efficiency, aims to streamline the licensing process for doctors, dentists, and community oral health officers.

The council said the e-registration platform will support Kenya’s broader digital transformation agenda, aligning with the government’s commitment to improving public service delivery through technology.
KMPDC CEO Dr. David Kariuki confirmed that the platform replaces the outdated paper-based process with a secure and user-friendly online system.

“We have shifted from manual paperwork to a digital platform that not only makes registration faster but also ensures transparency, accountability, and efficiency,” said Dr. Kariuki.

Applicants using the system will be required to provide comprehensive institutional information, including the name and location of the facility, director details, available services, medical personnel, and relevant documentation.

The system will offer automated validation, real-time status tracking, and centralized digital records for easier updates and retrieval.

Importantly, the platform complies with the Data Protection Act, 2019, which mandates strict control of personal information. All submissions will be encrypted, access will be tightly controlled, and activities will be logged automatically for auditing purposes.

Dr. Kariuki emphasized that applicants will benefit from 24/7 access to their application status, including internal workflow updates, automatic alerts, and digital approvals.

“This is a game-changer for the healthcare sector. It eliminates bureaucracy and ensures that only qualified individuals and institutions receive licensure,” he noted.

He also praised the system’s potential to improve service delivery by providing reliable and up-to-date data for planning and oversight. “This innovation is a transformative step in strengthening the mandates of the council,” he added.

The launch of the e-registration system is expected to greatly enhance compliance, reduce delays, and increase public trust in the healthcare regulatory framework, ultimately contributing to better healthcare outcomes in Kenya.
