Kisumu:Police urged to promote fairness to avert tension along Kisumu-Kericho border!

Elected political leaders from Nyakach sub County In Kisumu have called on the police to promote fairness, towards averting the growing tension, along the Kisumu-Kericho border town of Sondu
The leaders speaking in Sondu, have echoed the public concern, following claims of biased police handling of the differing parties in the conflict
Central Nyakach MCA Vincent Obuya, and his South West Nyakach counterpart Gard Olima have said that, it would take a sober handling of the whole situation to bring calm in the area
The leaders have said, that allegations of bias, as narrated by the Community around Sondu, is something that needs the national government attention, and can’t just be ignored
‘We have visited those injured in the hospitals, we have a family that is mourning their dead Son, you can see a concerned general public, that needs assurance from the national government that has the mandate of Securing all Kenyans’ Said Gard
The MCAs have called on more efforts in place to find a lasting solution, that would help end the recurring Sondu border tensions
MCA Gard Olima has promised to introduce the matter before the county assembly with a subsequent petition tote National government to pay attention to the Sondu Border crisis
On his part, the Nyakach Central ward representative, Obuya, called on all parties involved to calm down, suggesting possible areas of joint Government funded infrastructure and investments in the border area to foster cohesion and lasting unity
“I would urge our both bordering County Governments of Kisumu and Kericho, as well as the National government agencies in the areas to think of activities that can bring the communities herein more together , something like a University or training facility can be erected with support from both communities, and indeed that would be a great symbol of Unity” said Vincent
He added that ‘Sondu market is a very important market to all communities in this area, it unites through trading, and so we should promote more te things that unite us than the divisions
The border Town of Sondu, along the Ahero Kisii Highway brings together traders mostly Agricultural and livestock producers from Kisii, the former rift valley province and their Luo neighbours
One Person was reported dead and several other injured following skirmishes in the town, following divisions over support to the nationwide protest that were called by the opposition Azimio Coalition
Business came to a standstill for the second day on Thursday following the Wednesday skirmishes, each party accusing the other of being behind the inter community tension and violence that was witnessed
Security agencies headed by county commissioners from both Kisumu and Kericho Counties held meetings in the border town on Thursday , caaling for calm , whilst promising to bring the tension to an end
