Over 3000 Kisumu county government employees have threatened to down their tools, due to delayed salaries.
The Kenya County government workers Union, Kisumu Branch officials, in a notice to commence the strike have stated that they have no option, but to call for the countywide strike, after continued frustrations from the county government of Kisumu
With this strike, the officials have insisted , their intent is to totally stop all county government services to the lakeside city’s residents due to delayed pays from the months of January, February, March and the latest being April,
The Unions, Kisumu county secretary Rashid Onduu, confirmed that due notices and follow up letters had been issued to the county with no response, hence the move to call for a strike, up until when their dues shall be paid.
“We are really frustrated since we have written, more than once to the county bosses with no feedback at all , and it is even made more difficult since Kisumu county lacks a substantive county secretary after the Sacking of Mr John Auma’ Said Mr Onduu
The Secretary added that , the Kisumu County Government under the Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyon’go has failed to remit other statutory dues such as National Social Security fund (NSSF) and the National Health insurance fund (NHIF) plunging the workers into more debts
The workers officials announced that for several days to come, they have planned to Pitch camp outside the Kisumu governor’s office until he responds to their pay demands
Meanwhile the 3,000 plus workers strike would add to more challenges to Kisumu residents, considering that all health workers were on strike for the past two weeks, only for the county to secure a court order that forced them back to work.
