Police in Kisumu East are actively searching for Sebi Obonyo, who allegedly attacked his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend, Cynthia Anyango, in a fit of jealousy.
The incident occurred on Friday, April 18, around 4:45 p.m. in Nyakbong’ village, Kamjulu.
Reports indicate that Obonyo confronted Cynthia at her current boyfriend’s residence, stabbing her in the left ear and chest before fleeing. Neighbors, alerted by her screams, intervened promptly, preventing further harm.
Cynthia was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she remains in critical condition under medical supervision.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Obonyo was enraged by the breakup and sought revenge. Authorities have launched a manhunt for him and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
This incident has sparked concerns among local residents and human rights advocates, who are calling for swift justice and increased measures to protect individuals from domestic and gender-based violence.
The community is rallying together to support Cynthia and ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice.
The attack on Cynthia Anyango is part of a troubling pattern of domestic violence cases in Kisumu County. In February, a woman was fatally stabbed in Nyamasaria in a suspected love triangle, and in March, a teenage girl allegedly killed her uncle in Kadibo Sub-County.
These incidents have raised alarms about the rising cases of interpersonal violence in the region.
Authorities are urging the public to report any information that could lead to the apprehension of Sebi Obonyo. Community members are also encouraged to participate in initiatives aimed at curbing domestic violence and promoting peaceful conflict resolution.
