Kevin Wambua, the Head Coach of Kenya Sevens, has implemented significant adjustments to the Kenya Shujaa squad in preparation for their upcoming journey to Montevideo, Uruguay. These alterations come ahead of the Second Round of the Challenger Series, slated to unfold from the 8th to the 10th of March 2024.

Regrettably, Patrick Odongo, who demonstrated exceptional prowess as the top try scorer in Dubai, will be absent from the squad due to an injury sustained during the Daystar Falcons KRU Championship clash against Kabarak University. Odongo played a pivotal role in steering his team to a commanding 39-12 victory three weeks prior.

Additionally, Brian Tanga’s absence is attributed to an illness, paving the way for the return of Ben Salem and Dennis Abukuse to the roster. Vincent Onyala and Tony Omondi will assume the mantle of team captains in Tanga’s stead.

Notable Exclusions and Debuts: Festus Shiasi, William Mwanji, and Brian Mutugi find themselves omitted from the traveling team roster. Conversely, Christant Ojwang, Lameck Ambetsa, and Elvis Olukusi are poised to make their debut appearances for the national team, marking a significant milestone in their careers.

Tournament Outlook: Kenya Sevens ‘Shujaa’ is slated to compete in pool A, where they will contend with formidable opponents in Tonga, Georgia, and Portugal, setting the stage for an electrifying display of rugby prowess.

Conclusion: As the Kenya Sevens team undergoes these strategic adjustments, anticipation mounts for their performance in the upcoming Challenger Series. The blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent promises an enthralling spectacle as the squad embarks on their quest for victory in Uruguay.
