According to the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022, Bungoma, Murang’a, and Homabay counties exhibit the highest prevalence of sexual violence against women aged 15-49. Sexual violence encompasses a spectrum of acts ranging from verbal harassment to forced penetration and various forms of coercion, perpetrated by intimate partners, relatives, or other individuals.

In Kenya, statistics reveal that 21% of divorced women and 26.5% of separated women have encountered sexual violence, underscoring a higher susceptibility among separated women.

Specifically, Bungoma County reports 30.3% of sexual violence cases, Murang’a 24.3%, and Homabay 21.5%, surpassing the national average of 13%. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for intervention and support mechanisms for affected individuals.

Victims of sexual violence are thrust into a crime scene, necessitating immediate reporting to health facilities within 72 hours to enable evidence collection.
