Renowned football manager Jurgen Klopp has unveiled his vision as Red Bull’s newly appointed Global Head of Soccer, a role that represents a shift from the high-pressure environment of club management to a broader, long-term strategy for developing the sport.
In his first remarks since taking up the position, Klopp highlighted his commitment to advancing football at all levels.
“What I want to do is develop football – for our clubs, for our players, for our talents, but for football itself as well. Somebody has to take care of that,” he stated, underscoring his desire to make a meaningful impact beyond the boundaries of Red Bull’s football portfolio.
Klopp, who has spent three decades as a football leader, emphasized his readiness to learn and adapt in his new role.
“I’ve been a leader for the last three decades, but I want to listen, feel, learn, and understand what the people did so far because I can tell you they all did a brilliant job. It’s not that we’re starting from scratch. Bringing it all together, though, is the real challenge, and that’s what we aim to do,” he said.
The former Liverpool manager acknowledged the stark contrast between his previous role and his current position.
Reflecting on his time as a club coach, Klopp noted that the relentless schedule of managing games left little room for strategic thinking beyond immediate results.
“When you’re in the job, you have no time because you play every three days, and it’s just winning, winning, winning, or dealing with defeat. Now I’m free of that. I have time and energy for all the other stuff,” he explained.
Klopp expressed excitement about aligning with Red Bull’s innovative sports philosophy, which has been a hallmark of the organization’s approach across various disciplines.
“It’s a sports decision, and I’ve always loved the Red Bull sports idea. It’s exciting, adventurous, and innovative, and I want to be part of that,” he added.
As Global Head of Soccer, Klopp’s role will involve overseeing Red Bull’s football operations, including clubs such as RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg, while also shaping the organization’s broader vision for the sport.
His leadership is expected to further elevate Red Bull’s influence in football, fostering talent and innovation while contributing to the sport’s growth on a global scale.
