Taking on his social media handle earlier today, Facebook, Willis has expressed his sadness upon the passing away of his grandfather Willis Opiyo Otondo narrating the bond between them including being named after him.
“This one hit differently and hurts! My grandfather, who I am named after, Ker Willis Opiyo Otondi! How can it be though that just yesterday we were talking and today.” Read Part of the post.
Otondi passed on while receiving treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu after a short illness that is yet to be disclosed.
The longest serving Chairman of Luo Council of Elders has been eulogized by a section of luo leaders who termed him as unifying factor among the Luo community.
ODM leader Raila Odinga mourned Ker Opiyo as a pillar of community unity and admired his deduction.
“Mzee Otondi was a pillar of unity of the community and served with decorum and dedication.” Said Odinga.
Governor James Orengo mourned Otondi as a strong and virtuous leader who held the community together.
“The death of Ker Willis Otondi is very painful to the Luo Nation. We have lost a strong, and virtuous elder. A visionary leader who held the community together. We will miss him dearly, but we’ll celebrate his long and remarkable life.” Said Orengo.
