National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has come out strongly against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his recent remarks made during a visit to the United States, warning that such comments could negatively impact Kenya’s economy and sow division among citizens.

While addressing residents in Chuka during the launch of a new road project, Ichung’wah condemned Gachagua’s appeal to Kenyans living abroad to withhold remittances until President William Ruto’s government leaves office.

“We are appealing to those tarnishing the country’s image abroad to show some patriotism—not for the benefit of any leader, but for the sake of our nation,” Ichung’wah said.

He described Gachagua’s comments as reckless and damaging, explaining that they would primarily hurt ordinary Kenyans and their families who rely on support from abroad, rather than affecting the government directly.

“Ukisema ukiwa Marekani kwamba Wakenya wasitume pesa kwa wazazi wao, unawaumiza wazazi wao, sio serikali,” he added.

Ichung’wah further noted that such divisive rhetoric undermines efforts to stabilize and grow the economy, urging political leaders—especially those in opposition—to steer away from hate speech and ethnic-driven narratives and instead focus on development and unity.

South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro also weighed in, criticizing Gachagua and his allies, accusing them of making political noise without offering tangible solutions for the country.

“Inaonekana kiongozi wa kwaya ya wantam alikuwepo bunge kwa term moja, inaonyesha hata yeye ni one-term tu,” Osoro said in a not-so-subtle swipe at Gachagua.

Osoro also questioned Gachagua’s political future, particularly in relation to the presidency.

“Huyu anayesema huko Marekani kwamba atakuwa rais, hata hawezi simama, kwa sababu tayari ame-impeachiwa,” he added, implying that Gachagua’s political standing is no longer viable.

He went on to call for respect toward the current administration, particularly highlighting Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki, and emphasized that the government is working diligently to implement its development plans. Osoro expressed confidence that the Kenya Kwanza administration would earn a second term based on its performance.

Both leaders reaffirmed their support for President Ruto, urging the public to remain focused on unity and progress instead of divisive politics.
