Huruma Ward Member of County Assembly Kimani Wanjohi was summoned Tuesday on allegations of incitement where he recorded a statement with the Director of Criminal Investigation,DCI, , as the government intensified a crackdown on political actors suspected of fueling unrest in Uasin Gishu and neighbouring counties.
The arrest came amid a stern warning from Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who vowed that the state would act decisively against those seeking to destabilize the region. July 23, 2025.
Wanjohi, a vocal county legislator, is accused of organizing and inciting recent protests in Uasin Gishu that turned violent, resulting in looting, destruction of property, and confrontations with security forces.
Authorities claim that evidence gathered links him to efforts to mobilize youth through messaging platforms and local networks with the intent to stir up anti-government sentiment.
His arrest follows weeks of unrest in parts of the Rift Valley, including Uasin Gishu, Baringo, and Trans Nzoia, where demonstrations have coincided with the government’s grassroots outreach forum, Jukwala Usalama.
Speaking during the forum’s opening in Wasikwishu, Murkomen denounced political leaders allegedly sponsoring chaos for personal or partisan gain.
“The government has had enough,” he said. “We are going to be ruthless with those who incite violence, burn property, and tear communities apart.”
Murkomen also warned that additional arrests are imminent. “Let this be a warning. If you are out there organizing youth to throw petrol bombs or loot in the name of politics, we are coming for you,” he stated.

The Jukwala Usalama initiative is a five-day government-led campaign focused on strengthening security, promoting civic engagement, and addressing service delivery in Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, and Trans Nzoia.
Officials have emphasized that the peace and development seen in Uasin Gishu — dubbed “county number one” — must be preserved.Security agencies suspect that recent violence has been driven by non-local elements backed by external political financiers.
“We’ve identified key individuals behind these plots. They are not from here — they have no stake in the peace of Uasin Gishu,” one official said during a press briefing.
Authorities also criticized sections of the legal fraternity, singling out the Law Society of Kenya for defending individuals arrested for serious offenses, including arson and assault on law enforcement.
“If you’re defending those who torch police stations and supermarkets, you are aiding terror, not justice,” an official charged.
Under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, suspects found guilty of planning or executing acts of politically motivated violence may face severe penalties, including long-term imprisonment.Wanjohi is currently being held in police custody in Uasin Gishu as investigators prepare charges.
Police are investigating involvement of certain Uasin Gishu politicians inferring goons from Laikipia, Trans Nzoia and other parts of the country to cause mayhem during the attempted saba saba protests as well as June 25.
