With two months remaining until the 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations, preparations in Kitui County are in full swing. State House Coordinator of Coordination Bonnie Musambi toured high-level infrastructure projects such as the ITHOOKWE Stadium, where this year’s national celebration will be taking place, on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Tweeting updates and images from the ground, Musambi praised the pace and quality of the work, describing the projects as impressive.
“On a visit today, I was privileged to join the team inspecting the works in progress at ITHOOKWE Stadium, Kitui Central. The quality of work to date is excellent—world standard quality delivered at breakneck speed,” Musambi stated.
He also went on to say that the celebrations this year will be historic in nature for the county. “The 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations will not be an event alone, but transformative for Kitui. This is a wonderful milestone for our county,” he said.
Musambi also referred to overall development enhancements associated with the upcoming celebrations, including the hospitality sector and other primary facilities. “Besides the stadium, the construction of the Kitui State Lodge and the expansion of the ITHOOKWE Airstrip are unambiguous indications of a government committed to real development. Kitui is on the ascension, and that is going to continue,” he added.
The news comes just a month after Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo toured some of the nation’s infrastructure projects in Kitui. The government has revealed that ITHOOKWE Stadium, with a capacity for 10,000 people, is one of various sped-up legacy initiatives that are not only expected to complement the Mashujaa Day celebrations but also spur long-term regional development.
Among his schedule, PS Omollo toured some of the road development works within the overall infrastructure development plan. “The stadium, the mini–State Lodge, and the upgraded airstrip are not all for the celebrations. The investments are geared towards putting Kitui on the center stage and boosting its long-term economic and social development,” Omollo stated.
He also added that these projects are in accordance with the government’s initiative to promote well-balanced growth in all counties in Kenya.
