Governor Rotich calls for additional Military camps in Samo and Kamologon forest!

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich has called on the government to establish more military camps to tame banditry in Kerio Valley.

Governor Rotich noted the  presence of the army in Kolowa, which borders Tiaty and Elgeyo Marakwet had restored peace in the area and called on the Defense and Interior Cabinet Secretary to fast track the establishment of another two permanent military camps in the region.

“Since a military camp was established at Todo on the border of Tiaty and our County,  normalcy has returned into the area and people from the two neighboring counties are relating well,” he said.

The governor said he had consulted Defence CS Aden Duale to discuss the latest insecurity menace in the county.

“I am glad to report that both the Ministry of Defence and Interior will expedite the establishment of two military camps immediately to contain the wanton killing of innocent citizens by the bandits,” he said.

This comes after two people were shot by bandits in Kamologon and Chesegon respectively.

Master Evans Kiprono Chemakilus was shot dead by bandits at Kamologon forest on a similar day Joseph Betaki was killed at Chesegon.

Governor Rotich when he condoled with the family of the late Joseph Betaki at his Liter home. Betaki was killed by bandits in Chesegon.

“The killings are shocking.  We are left to wonder why this is happening.  I hope this stops,” said Peter Kurui, a resident of Kaben.

Mr Kurui blamed  police  officers for failing to respond to their distress call . “They patrol (army officers) along the road but fail to respond when we raise the alarm,” he added.
