The national government has launched an emergency security operation which involves multiple agencies to operate in Isiolo and Laikipia and Meru County regions to combat increasing banditry activities and to confiscate unlawful weapons.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced the operation in Isiolo town after he consulted with local security officials and peace committees and political leaders of the area. He stated the operation began because there had been more security incidents during the past eight days which resulted in three fatalities and five injured victims.
According to Murkomen the security operation will target criminal organizations that operate cattle rustling activities by cutting their resource connections and tracking their weapons traffic operations.
The CS accused police service divisions of showing operational weakness through insufficient coordination and the government will create security measures to address existing law enforcement challenges.
Murkomen ordered all civilians who have legal residence in Mokogondo Forest Laikipia County to vacate the region at once so that security personnel can conduct their operations without interruptions.
