Citizens in various villages in Ndaragwa Constituency have received news with joy regarding the completion and connectivity of electricity in their dwellings. It is considered a milestone for the region, as this move is expected to boost development.
The electrification project has registered the connection of more than 150 houses to the national power grid in Nairobi Village located in the Leshau Pondo Ward, as well as Ihiga Village, located along Ndaragwa Central Ward. For most of these families, the connection signifies the end of a long period of living without power, with the only sources of light including kerosene lanterns among others.
The project was launched officially at Ndogino Village, where community leaders, citizens, and government representatives were present to mark the occasion. The project has received widespread acclaim for its efforts to bring about parity in developments between rural and urban settings.
In his remarks during the commissioning, George Gachagua, the MP for Ndaragwa, commended the level of accomplishment so far and reiterated his dedication towards ensuring that a higher number of households get power supply. He said that already, there are proposals for improvement by optimizing transformers so as to reach as many houses as possible.
Mr. Gachagua reiterated the significance of having electricity and how it will enable the communities to develop. He told the communities to have no fear since the engineers will work hand in hand to make sure that the infrastructure put there will have the highest use.
The local residents showed optimism about the impact that electricity would bring to their community and its benefits to their daily livelihoods and economic activities. They remarked that electricity would be critical in this technological age where information flow has become vital.
This was according to John Kamu, a local resident, who said the role the electricity will play in the community will have a long-lasting effect on the community, including local businesses and families. “This will change the lives of all of us, and it will enable the community to do income-generating activities,” he said.
The local farmer community was also glad about the project and expressed their gratitude by saying that power will facilitate agricultural operations like value addition, irrigation, and storage of products. Traders praised power by saying that it will help them operate late and start new businesses like shops, salons, and welding.
The project is significant in that it demonstrates the government’s continued commitment towards increasing access to vital services and the overall improvement of the standard of living of the people of the Ndaragwa Constituency. Rural electrification is seen as an important factor in bridging inequality and developing the nation. While the celebrations continue in the newly linked villages, the residents have called for the project to be extended to the remaining constituencies that have not received electricity yet, as they hope that the move to connect them to electricity will reach them soon.
