Government Announces Appointment of Selection Panels for Four Constitutional Commissions
The affected commissions and offices include the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ)/Office of the Ombudsman, the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The government has announced the appointment of Selection Panels to facilitate the recruitment of new Chairpersons and Members for four Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices. This move comes as the terms of office for the respective Chairpersons and Members of these bodies are set to expire, necessitating a transition.
The State Officers serving in these positions are appointed for a single, non-renewable term of six years. The affected commissions and offices include the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ)/Office of the Ombudsman, the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
To ensure a smooth transition, His Excellency the President has constituted the necessary Selection Panels for each of these bodies. “The appointment of these panels marks a significant step towards maintaining the integrity and continuity of these key institutions,” stated a spokesperson from the Executive Office of the President.
The Selection Panels have been established in accordance with the statutory requirements, drawing members from professional bodies, organizations, institutions, and State Offices.
The appointment of these panels is seen as a crucial step in maintaining the effectiveness and accountability of these constitutional bodies. “The transition process is designed to be transparent and inclusive, ensuring that the most qualified candidates are selected to lead these important institutions,” remarked Mr. Joshua Wambua, a member of the Selection Panel for the SRC.
The new appointments are expected to uphold the mandate of each commission in fostering good governance, safeguarding public interest, and promoting equality and justice in the country. As the panels begin their work, all eyes will be on the selection process to ensure it aligns with the highest standards of integrity and transparency.
The government has urged all stakeholders to support the process, emphasizing that the successful appointment of new members will be integral to the continued functioning of these vital public institutions.
