Renowned gospel musician and politician Reuben Kigame has declared his intention to run for the presidency in Kenya’s 2027 General Election, aiming to unseat the current head of state, President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interview on NTV’s Fixing the Nation program on Monday, Kigame made it clear that this time his presidential run is not just a possibility but a firm plan.

“I’m not just hoping—I’m fully planning to be on the ballot in 2027. In a few weeks, I’ll officially launch my campaign. With about two years left before the elections, that’s enough time to prepare and roll out my vision for Kenya,” Kigame stated.

The gospel singer reflected on his earlier attempt to vie for the highest office in 2022, saying that his journey then was cut short. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had disqualified him from the race after he failed to meet the required number of endorsement signatures.

Despite the setback, Kigame said he remains committed to completing what he started, promising to campaign vigorously to ensure a successful bid in the upcoming election.

In his remarks, Kigame also praised Kenyan youth for their growing involvement in matters of governance, accountability, and transparency. He highlighted their role as a driving force in demanding integrity from leaders and pushing for reforms that truly benefit citizens.

Additionally, Kigame urged voters to carefully assess politicians based on their track record and ability to deliver on campaign promises, rather than merely relying on political rhetoric.

“Kenyans should not just vote based on words and promises. Leaders must be evaluated on how well they follow through with what they commit to during campaigns. Accountability should guide our choices if we want meaningful change,” Kigame emphasized.

Kigame’s renewed presidential ambition signals a fresh chapter in his political journey. As he prepares to launch his campaign, many will be watching closely to see how the gospel artist-turned-politician plans to challenge established political figures and present an alternative vision for Kenya’s future.
