Four police officers from the Maai Mahiu Police Station in Nakuru County were arrested in connection with the mysterious shooting and death of their colleague, Corporal Hassan Lolkidid, during a patrol operation in the Msikiti area. The incident on October 29, 2025, raises serious questions regarding police conduct and accountability within the service.

According to a comprehensive police report obtained by Citizen Digital, the arrested officers—Jim Murithi, Emmanuel Sang, Antony Wangombe, and Joshua Keter—were apprehended following investigations that linked them to both the shooting and an alleged attempt to conceal the true circumstances surrounding Corporal Lolkidid’s death. The four suspects are currently being held at Naivasha Police Station as inquiries continue.

The report shows that on the night of the incident, a team of seven officers, among them Corporal Lolkidid, the four arrested officers, and two others, Richard Muriithi and Wycliffe Okello, acted on intelligence regarding a suspicious lorry offloading tyres and hardware materials about one kilometre west of Maai Mahiu Police Station.

Upon arrival, the officers found about ten men in the process of offloading goods from the vehicle. The police moved in to question them and the suspects ran away. A brief chase ensued. Moments later, there were a series of shots. When the dust settled, Corporal Lolkidid was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound in his chest, which proved fatal.

In their initial statements, the officers all denied firing their weapons and generally said gunfire rang out and they weren’t sure where it was coming from. But investigators noted discrepancies in their accounts. All five firearms recovered at the scene, including Jericho pistols and Ceska handguns, were seized and submitted for ballistic analysis to identify which weapon discharged the fatal bullet.

The lorry involved in the incident was towed to Maai Mahiu Police Station for further examination, while the body of the deceased officer was transferred to Umme Funeral Home, where a postmortem is expected to determine the exact cause of death.

Later, it emerged in initial investigations that there was an apparent attempt by the four officers to cover up the circumstances of the shooting. This development led to their immediate arrest and detention pending formal charges. The prosecution has confirmed that the suspects will appear in court on October 31, 2025, as it continues with investigations into the tragic incident. It has increased calls for more openness and accountability in the police service as a way of ensuring that such cases do not happen again.
