Former Machakos Member of Parliament Dr. Victor Munyaka has declined his appointment to the position of chairperson at the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre,KAGRC Chairperson

The appointment, which was made public through a Kenya Gazette notice dated 3rd October 2024, had come from the desk of President William Ruto.

Despite this great opportunity to serve the nation, Dr. Munyaka has declined the offer with dignity.

In a press statement dated October 6, 2024, Dr. Munyaka expressed his appreciation to the Head of State for trust and confidence in his appointment.

He felt honored by a position carrying with it an assurance of responsibility and one that could be a great potential in contributing toward Kenya’s agricultural and genetic research sectors.

“I thank the Head of State for offering me the opportunity to serve Kenyans in such a capacity,” Munyaka observed.

The former MP, however, declared that after much contemplation and consultation with key stakeholders, he came to the difficult decision to decline the appointment.

Current political environment was cited by Dr. Munyaka as one of the main factors for his decision.

He pointed to the possible risks associated with the government’s more significant Economic Transformation Agenda, which, he feels, is not in sync with his appointment at this time.

“After soul-searching, extensive consultations, and in consideration of the current political climate that threatens the realization of the government’s economic transformation agenda, I have made the difficult decision to respectfully decline this appointment,” he explained.

Dr. Munyaka’s decision will definitely stir reactions, taking into consideration the previous association with the Kenya Kwanza administration and his influence in the political scene.

His decision not to take up such a key role in the agricultural sector will raise speculation about what might have been the underlying factors that influenced his choice, going by his record of public service.

Even as he resigned from his position, Dr. Munyaka sent regards to President Ruto and his administration, wishing that the leadership of government will take over the mantle of the future of Kenya successfully.

“Thank you once more for considering me for this position. I wish you and your administration success as you lead our country,” he concluded.
