Farmers  from the President’s  home county  of  Uasin gishu   have contributed  over  350 bags of maize and  80 bags of clothes through the Uasin Gishu Save  A Life Initiative that has  so far collected food and non food items  worth  10 million shillings in aid to hundreds of  families  affected by  drought in Turkana County.

 

The Chairman of the Uasin Gishu  Save  a Life Initiative(UCSALI) Dr. Willy Kenei who is also the  chair the Kenya Chamber of  Commerce and Industry Uasin gishu chapter , noted  mobilization was cascaded to Sub county level  and the donations  collected will support  30,000 people for  a period of  28 days ,

“So far we  have managed to received donations of  various  assorted items that include 2,080 bales of Unga,228 bags of 50Kg rice ,11 Bags of beans 90 kg, 50 bags of Animal feed supplements ,80 Litres of  cooking oil ,5 bags of sugar 25 kg ,80 bags of Clothes  among other items,”Said the UCSALI chair .

 

Dr.Kenei  applauded the  Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii for launching the  initiative as well as  the  support from  the National Government and other  institutions  that aided  the mobilization of humanitarian aid following the Presidents rallying call two months  ago towards the support of  close  to 5 Million Kenyans  who are  food insecure following delayed rains.

 

The  Uasin Gishu Governor  Jonathan Bii who flagged off  the  Food donations at the County Headquarters , thanked  the  Business community ,farmers and individuals who participated in the save  a  life initiative , noting that Kenyans were still welcome to donate more  food and  non food items  towards supporting those  affected by vagaries of drought,

“special thanks to the  Save  a life initiative and residents who quickly came together and donated 65 tons of food that is likely to support one  constituency in Turkana county for  about  one month ,we still have more  room to receive  donations  for those  willing to contribute towards the initiative  ”Said  governor Bii.

 

The  Speaker  of  the  Uasin Gishu County assembly Phillip Muigei called on the residents to continue  with the  food donations as many more counties are facing  food insecurity,

“We thank those who have  contributed  immensely  to save  a life that is in dire need of  food ,we  urge  other  counties to take up such initiatives  in order to  help close  to 5 Million people who are in need of  food”Said the Speaker.

 

The Kenya red cross society North Rift region led  by Esther Chege will provide in mapping , planning and distribution of  the  humanitarian aid to the affected  5,000 Households in Turkana County,

“We have  contributed 3 trucks to transport the  donations and we will coordinate the human resource required for the successful execution of  the Exercise”Said The Kenya Red Red cross regional manager Esther Chege.

 

The Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is  Expected to receive and distribute the relief food in Turkana County.
