A family in Mwea village, Kirinyaga County, is in distress following the mysterious disappearance of a 44-year-old preacher, John Kinyua Murango, who vanished while on a mission in Moyale last month.

According to family members, Kinyua had travelled to Moyale for a church mission but went silent on April 24, leaving no trace.

His sudden disappearance has sparked fear and concern among his relatives and church community. The family has since raised the alarm, urging security agencies and the government to help trace their loved one.

Kinyua, a father of four and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Ngurubaini, Kirinyaga County, was described as a dedicated servant of God who had just recently graduated and begun his ministry.

His wife, Lilian Wangari, revealed that the family had celebrated his graduation last December with high hopes for the future.

“He reported to his new assignment in Kate on March 10 and went missing on April 24,” Wangari stated, holding back tears.

The family disclosed that Kinyua had confided in them about receiving threats to his life shortly before his disappearance, although he never revealed the source of the threats. They now believe the threats may be linked to his vanishing and are urging authorities to take swift action.

During a special church service held at the Ngurubaini SDA Church, members gathered in prayer for Kinyua’s safe return. Emotions ran high as relatives and congregants united in hope and concern for the missing preacher.

Kinyua’s brother, Douglas Gitonga, described the disappearance as a painful turn of events for the family. “What began as a joyful mission has now turned into a nightmare,” he said. “We are pleading with the government and security agencies to intervene and help us find Kinyua. He is not just a preacher—he is a father and a husband who needs to come back home.”

The family continues to appeal to anyone with information regarding Kinyua’s whereabouts to come forward.
