Embakasi police have apprehended two key suspects linked to a string of housebreakings and thefts in the Utawala area, following a swift investigation triggered by a local resident’s distressing discovery.

The incident unfolded when a resident of Haiza Apartment, located in Utawala, returned to his home only to find that it had been ransacked.

Valuable belongings had been stolen, and the apartment showed signs of forced entry. Disturbed by the break-in, the resident immediately reported the matter to the authorities.

Detectives responded quickly, launching a comprehensive investigation. Forensic analysis of the crime scene and other leads directed officers toward the suspects’ getaway vehicle, which was tracked to Thogoto, a locality several kilometers from Utawala.

There, police spotted the vehicle—a Mazda CX5—parked outside a local bar. However, upon closer inspection, the vehicle was found to be sporting a counterfeit license plate (KDC 077P) that did not match its true registration number, KDD 677P.

Inside the vehicle were four individuals, but as police closed in on the suspects, two managed to flee on foot. Despite this, officers were able to apprehend the driver, Kelvin Kasyoki, and his accomplice, Wilson Waweru.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a disturbing collection of criminal tools. These included fake vehicle registration plates, black and yellow number plates designed for fraudulent purposes, crowbars—commonly used for breaking into homes—and master keys capable of unlocking car doors. The discovery strongly linked the duo to a series of similar crimes in the area.

Kasyoki and Waweru are currently in police custody, undergoing processing as they await their day in court. Meanwhile, the Mazda CX5 and the recovered criminal tools are being held as key exhibits in the ongoing investigation.

Police have expressed confidence that the arrests will help dismantle a larger criminal network responsible for the recent wave of housebreakings and thefts in the region.

Investigators are continuing to pursue additional leads, hoping to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to assist in further investigations.
