Tech billionaire Elon Musk has sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s signature tax and spending bill, calling it a “disguising abomination” and warning that it will significantly harm the U.S. economy.

The bill, which was passed by the House of Representatives last month and is now supported by senators, includes large tax breaks and massive spending, which Musk argues will increase the U.S. budget deficit and burden future generations with “crushing” debt.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Musk expressed his concerns about the bill, claiming it would add an estimated $600 billion to the federal budget deficit in the upcoming fiscal year.

He warned that the legislation, often referred to by Trump as the “big beautiful bill,” will increase the deficit to a staggering $2.5 trillion over time.

Musk said, “This outrageous, pork-filled bill will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit and burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.”

Musk’s comments marked his first public disagreement with President Trump since leaving the administration. Musk had previously worked with Trump’s administration for several months, trying to help cut costs with his team, known as Doge. However, last week, he left the administration abruptly after just 129 days of service.

The bill, which Trump has pushed as a cornerstone of his second-term agenda, includes provisions for extensive tax cuts for corporations and wealthy individuals. While Trump has touted the bill as a way to stimulate economic growth, critics, including Musk, argue that the plan will only exacerbate the country’s financial instability.

Musk didn’t mince words in his condemnation of the bill. He added on X, “Shame on those who voted for it,” hinting at a potential campaign to remove the politicians responsible in next year’s midterm elections. Musk is suggesting that Americans should “fire all politicians who betrayed the American people” in 2024, an apparent call for a political overhaul.

The bill’s passage has sparked significant debate, with critics arguing that the massive tax breaks are more likely to benefit the wealthy and large corporations rather than the average citizen.
