The Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, has ordered for further investigations to take place regarding allegations of malpractice at Sisto Mazzoldi Hospital, which is located in Nakuru County. The investigation will be carried out by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) due to some of the allegations that have emerged in the media.

The CS made this announcement in a press release disseminated to media houses, whereby he said that he had directed the regulatory agency to conduct a thorough investigation regarding the allegations that had been made. He cited the gravity of the allegations and their possible threats to patients in health facilities as a reason for conducting an investigation.

As stated by the Cabinet Secretary, Sisto Mazzoldi Hospital is currently being investigated by the Social Health Authority (SHA) due to claims of submitting fraudulent claims. The hospital was subsequently suspended from offering its services based on the framework of SHA due to the claims raised against it, which will be concluded at the end of all investigations that are currently being undertaken.

CS Duale further indicated that the facility had experienced further regulatory actions by the KMPDC. As a result of a thorough assessment conducted in November 2025, the facility had its classification reduced from a Level IV facility to a Level III facility. CS Duale indicated that this had been based on the results of the regulatory review assessment.

The Cabinet Secretary pointed out that KMPDC would not have any hesitation in meting out stern disciplinary action should the investigations establish any medical negligence. The secretary reiterated that any default by medical providers concerning the medical and moral guidelines would result in very severe repercussions.

Reiterating the commitment of the government to Universal Health Coverage (UHC), CS Duale stated that it was essential to remember that every Kenyan had a constitutional right to accessible and quality health care, in line with Article 43 of the Constitution. He added that MoH was committed to ensuring that there was a health care system that was quality-, transparency-, and efficiency-based, with a core component of patient-centered care.

Duale also urged the public to actively contribute to improving the health sector by reporting any concerns or irregularities in services offered. He urged the public to utilize the toll-free number 147 offered by the Social Health Authority to report any complaint or piece of information that might assist in immediate action by the authority. He emphasized the importance of involvement of the public in ensuring the integrity of the health sector in Kenya. As the Cabinet Secretary stated, the oversight of the public would ensure the success of the various reforms and the achievement of a healthier future for the Kenyan population as the government via the Ministry of Health strives to ensure quality among the facilities.
