Detectives probing the alleged abduction and torture of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi were denied access to him at the hospital, raising more questions in an already murky case.

The officers visited the facility on Monday evening and again on Tuesday morning, aiming to assess the MP’s condition and question the attending doctors. However, Koimburi’s family barred them from seeing him or obtaining medical details.

Meanwhile, the investigative team revisited the location in Kiambu County where Koimburi was found on Monday, a day after he claimed to have been kidnapped outside a church in Mugutha on Sunday. He was discovered in a coffee plantation with visible soft-tissue injuries.

As speculation mounts, police have denied involvement in the incident. Spokesman Michael Muchiri stated that the MP was under investigation for alleged land fraud and had deliberately evaded arrest.

“He escaped using a motorcycle with his private security, then switched off his phone,” said Muchiri. His driver was briefly arrested and later released after recording a statement.

Muchiri also confirmed that a special team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is analyzing an amateur video related to the alleged abduction. “We encourage anyone with information to report via 999, 911, 112, or #FichuakwaDCI (0800 722 203),” he added.

The detectives now seek to establish who picked up the MP from the scene and how that person knew his location.

Adding to the tension, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua visited Koimburi in hospital and claimed the MP was tortured. “He was badly beaten and suffered soft-tissue injuries. Doctors believe professionals were involved,” said Gachagua.

He further alleged that Koimburi lost his voice after inhaling a chemical administered by the captors. “Doctors say the chemical interfered with his vocal cords,” Gachagua told reporters.

The mystery continues as authorities race to determine whether Koimburi’s abduction was real, staged, or orchestrated by other actors.
