The DCI has arrested a popular TikTok content creator who claimed he was offered Ksh 3.5 million to assassinate a well-known Nairobi Member of Parliament. The DCI, on Friday evening, confirmed the arrest and detained the suspect for allegedly spreading false information through his TikTok account.

According to the statement from the DCI, the suspect was arrested from his hideout in Malindi following detailed investigations into the shocking allegations he posted on the social media platform. He is currently in police custody and is set to be arraigned before the court to face charges of publishing misleading and alarming information.

The suspect was arrested over a viral video that he shared on October 20, 2025, where he sensationally claimed that a senior government official had approached him with an offer of Ksh 3.5 million to eliminate a prominent MP. The DCI confirmed that this statement formed the basis of their investigation as the allegations were serious and potentially destabilizing.

In a viral TikTok video dated October 20, 2025, the suspect claimed that he had been promised millions to assassinate a high-profile lawmaker. The information has been established to be false and meant to mislead the public, detectives say.

In his first post, the TikToker said that the alleged assassination plot was linked to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He insinuated that this was to ensure that the MP he claimed was targeted would not rise as the new political voice for a section of Kenyans. He also cautioned that such a plot could result in the ignition of political unrest if not checked.

Days after the video went viral, though, the content creator resurfaced online to take back his words. In the second video, he explains that the whole story was made up, and he created it for entertainment and “content creation” reasons.

While the videos went viral, attracting much attention, the government and the legislator have not given an official statement concerning the issue. Surprisingly, during the burial of Raila Odinga, the same MP complained of threats of an attack but did not mention those who were planning to attack him.

This is not the first time a TikTok user has faced arrest over controversial content. Businessman and TikToker Kan Maiyo was detained in July over allegedly inciting the public against the police through an online post. The recent arrest also comes shortly after the enactment of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Amendment Bill, 2024, which empowers authorities to monitor and penalize individuals misusing digital platforms through the spread of false or injurious information.
