Police in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, have arrested a couple accused of severely abusing their seven-year-old son after he allegedly stole and ate fish from their kitchen.

The disturbing incident took place in Ramoya village, Kajwang’ Sub-location, and came to light after concerned neighbors alerted local authorities.

The boy, a Grade Three pupil, is said to have sustained burns on both hands after his parents allegedly punished him using molten plastic.

Kajwang’ Assistant Chief Enos Nyawade, who led the arrest, confirmed that the child was forced to place his hands under burning plastic carrier bags set alight by his mother. “We established that the mother ignited the plastic, and as it melted, she made the child hold out his hands beneath the dripping plastic,” Nyawade reported.

Investigations also revealed that before the burning incident, the boy’s father had forced him to eat the entire fish he was accused of stealing.

Ndhiwa Sub-county Police Commander John Losia confirmed the couple’s arrest, stating they are being held at Ndhiwa Police Station. The two are expected to face joint charges related to assault and child abuse.
