County Assembly interrogates senior county and security officers over Eldoret Skirmishes

The Uasin Gishu County Assembly’s committees on Trade  and Devolution have  interrogated  key Uasin Gishu County officers over the skirmishes that involved County Askaris, hawkers, and street urchins in Eldoret town last Thursday.

 

 

Speaking to the press after trade committee interrogated the Senior  officials  and  enforcement officers,  The  Uasin Gishu County Assembly  leader of Minority  Hon Francis Muya noted  the  session was aimed  at unearthing what  could have led to the  skirmishes and identify  if  perhaps  the  county enforcement officers  used  excessive  force  before  making  its  final recommendations .

“First of all I want to condemn the skirmishes that were witnessed in Eldoret town on Thursday, that was uncalled for and  painted a bad image of the County which is home to The  5th  president of  the  republic Of Kenya , we  would not  wish to have  such a  scenario repeat itself , motorist  vying  the Eldoret Uganda  Highway were scolded ,vehicles  destroyed  and businesses looted , this must not  happen,” said the Uasin Gishu Jubilee party chairman who is also the Langas  ward  MCA .

 

 

The Legislature also noted senior Uasin Gishu County security officers will be summoned by the Committee to shade light on the ugly incidence that was a result of a security gap,

“We are informed through the speech of HE Eng. John  Barorot The deputy Governor Uasin Gishu,that there could have been upto  five  groups of organized gangs within  the Central business district  that could have also joined  forces with traders to cause the mayhem and  viciously attack the County enforcement officers, we wish to establish what the  security officers  are doing about  this, “Said Hon Muya.

 

 

The Minority leader who was also accompanied by other members of the  said  committees including Hon. Kimani Wanjohi and  Hon. David  Waiganjo  have  also faulted the Closure of the Champions market forcing over  900 traders to relocate  to other markets while a majority  have been left  jobless,

 

 

“ We assure  the  Governor of  our  support in terms of  bringing order at the  retail market and within the  CBD but  we  also implore  upon his  administration to open up the market as many of the  traders continue to  be  inconvenienced at a time when the  government is supporting small traders to keep them  afloat a mid-harsh economic times,”Said  Hon Muya.

 

 

Ongoing Renovation works by the County Government at the Retail Market

 

 

The Market was ordered closed for seven days and  the county government has since begun renovation activities within and  outside of the market ,but the seven days have  since  lapsed and the market  remains closed.
