Chepsilongei presented documentation affirming the society’s ownership and called upon Defense Minister Aden Duale to thwart any attempts to unlawfully seize their land

Mzee William Chepsilongei, the 80-year-old chairman of Leseru Tebeson Farmers Society, which owns a vast 3500-acre land in Uasin Gishu, has disclosed that senior politicians are allegedly seeking to expropriate the land for personal gain amidst plans for the multimillion Eldoret Eastern Bypass.

In a statement following his meeting with Uasin Gishu County criminal investigation officers on Friday, Chepsilongei presented documentation affirming the society’s ownership and called upon Defense Minister Aden Duale to thwart any attempts to unlawfully seize their land. He asserted,
‘We have submitted documents, including search records, to the DCI officers, confirming Leseru Tebeson Farmers Society’s undisputed ownership of the 3500-acre land, unrelated to any dispute with the Kenya Defense Forces.’ Chepsilongei further stated, ‘
These individuals, including local politicians, accuse me of harboring intentions to monopolize the bypass project funds, which is entirely unfounded. I urge the President and the government to safeguard the interests of Tebeson farmers. We shall not relinquish even an inch of our land.’ The Eldoret Eastern Bypass, estimated at 2 billion Kenyan shillings, is anticipated to alleviate congestion on the busy Eldoret-Uganda highway.
Accompanied by his son and Eldoret-based human rights activist Kimutai Kitui, Chepsilongei expressed gratitude to local security agencies for assuring his safety amidst recent threats, including mysterious individuals trailing him and making intimidating calls.
He commended the Uasin Gishu county commander and the CCIO for their commitment to his protection. Chepsilongei called upon Defense Minister Duale to retract and apologize for instigating public hostility toward him, emphasizing that the 503 members of the society had acquired the land through lawful means.
Kimutai echoed Chepsilongei’s sentiments, urging Duale to uphold the law he swore to defend. Chepsilongei and the society’s members demanded Duale’s resignation and refuted allegations of offering him 100 acres, dismissing such claims as misinformation.”
