Carlos Espí has opened up about the difficulty of keeping his move to Real Madrid private, saying the transfer developed so quickly that he had little opportunity to share the news with even his closest friends.
The young forward said he was informed that the deal would be completed soon and was instructed not to reveal details before the transfer was officially confirmed.
Speaking about the experience, Espí said keeping such major news to himself for several days was particularly difficult because of his excitement about joining one of the world’s most recognised football clubs.
“My signing for Real Madrid happened so fast I couldn’t tell anyone. It was incredibly difficult to keep that secret,” Espí said.
He explained that he wanted to tell his friends about the move but had to respect the instructions given to him while the final stages of the deal were being completed.
“Imagine not being able to say you were going to sign for Real Madrid. It was a tough few days because you want to say it, but you have to do what they ask,” he said.
Espí added that those around him were told that the transfer would be completed shortly and that they should remain silent until everything was finalised.
“They told us it would be done soon, that we shouldn’t say anything, but all I wanted was to tell my friends,” he said.
The comments offer a glimpse into the secrecy that can surround major football transfers, particularly when clubs and players are waiting for agreements and formal procedures to be completed.
For Espí, the wait was made more difficult by the significance of the destination. The prospect of joining Real Madrid meant he was carrying news that would normally be difficult to keep from friends and family.
