During a meeting in Uasin Gishu County, Willy Kenei, Chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce, reported that businesses in Eldoret County have lost over Ksh 500 million due to recent demonstrations by Gen Z.
Kenei detailed the extensive losses, noting that properties were vandalized, including mobile phone shops, cars, electronic shops, and the entire Eldoret CBD. “We also had losses in terms of business cancellations at hotels and the general destruction of other county assets,” Kenei said.
Addressing the recent protests, Governor Jonathan Bii mentioned that President Ruto has committed to addressing the issues raised by the youth. “We commend the President for the move, and I also urge our youths and other residents to value peace and unity at all times,” Bii said.
Governor Bii further stated that the youth, popularly known as Gen Z, are free to express their views on issues affecting the country but should embrace peace rather than destroy properties. “Without peace, we cannot achieve development, and we should safeguard the gains we have made as a nation instead of destroying what we have built over the years,” he emphasized.
The Governor assured that he will work with the county government to provide a conducive business environment across Eldoret town.
