A woman from Bomet County has been taken into police custody after she reportedly stabbed her husband to death in a late-night confrontation at a popular entertainment joint in Kapkwen trading Centre. The suspect, Sharon Cherotich, 32, is accused of attacking her 36-year-old spouse with a broken beer bottle following a disagreement that turned violent.
Police Commandant Edward Ibwaga from Bomet County confirmed that the incident occurred, explaining that it happened inside a nightclub where the couple was drinking together. Preliminary investigations reveal that Cherotich broke a beer bottle and used one of the sharp pieces to stab her husband in the neck. The wound was deep and bled intensely, such that despite several attempts to rush him to Tenwek Hospital, the man died before admission.
Authorities say motive behind the dispute remains under investigation. Although it is clear an argument predated the stabbing, police have not yet established what set off the conflict or why it escalated so quickly.
Eyewitness accounts paint a chaotic scene inside the nightclub shortly after the incident occurred. According to Faith Chepngetich, a bar attendant commonly known among patrons as “Tetio,” the couple was enjoying their evening when tensions suddenly flared. She described that panic erupted as soon as the man collapsed, with some patrons trying to confront the suspect. In the confusion, Cherotich reportedly fled from the club moments after the stabbing.
Law enforcement officers mounted a manhunt overnight, relying on leads gathered from witness statements and information from the locals. They later arrested the suspect at a hideout within the area. Police say she will be charged once investigations are completed.
Detectives examined the crime scene, and some of those who were there when it happened have recorded statements to reconstruct the series of events. Police are also reviewing additional evidence to determine whether the altercation involved other contributing factors like intoxication or prior domestic disputes.
Meanwhile, the body of the victim was transferred to the Tenwek Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem is expected to be performed. These findings will aid in the ongoing inquiry and support any subsequent legal actions that may be taken. The police have appealed to the public not to draw premature conclusions as investigations continue. They also called for calm as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragic death, which has shocked residents of Kapkwen and the wider Bomet community.
