Athletics Kenya (AK) and the Anti-doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) have started preparation ahead of the 2023 World championships in Budapest, Hungary on August 19 -27.

The program is aimed at creating awareness on anti doping.

They have started with 100 probable athletes drawn from the vast rift Valley region as athletes meet in Eldoret Eka Hotel.

Athletes focusing on joining team Kenya for world championships must undergo compulsory anti-doping education and minimum testing requirements as stipulated by World Athletics for categories of countries with highest doping lists.

Speaking during the opening of the forum AK director of Youth Committee Barnabas Korir said that the rule says athletes should be tested three times ten months before competition.

” We want to make Information available to athletes who will be able to participate in the world competition and identify athletes and those who already have qualifications.” Said Korir.

Korir added that imparting knowledge is paramount and should be continued.

“Partaking knowledge is very paramount according to world Athletics and AIU, thus giving continuous education on doping, it helps athletes to understand better matters of doping.” Added Korir.

Adak incharge of education and research Martin Yauma said that they are urging and advising athletes to keep off prohibited substances.

He added that their aim is to ensure they give the good image of the country which is currently at stake.

Yauma said that the main cause of athletes doping is the shortcut to get rich quickly which is contributed by support staff.

“Money is the main cause that has been attributed to athletes doping, they are cheated with support personnel to go for short cuts to richness.” Said Yauma.

Some of the athletes present were Julius Yego, Emmanuel Korir,Mercy Cherono, Faith cherotich,Daniel Simiu among others
