The Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) has officially launched its 2025-2029 Strategic Plan, a bold roadmap aimed at driving agricultural excellence, fostering innovation, and transforming the sector. The unveiling ceremony, attended by key government officials, industry stakeholders, and development partners, marked a significant step in Kenya’s agricultural growth agenda.

Speaking at the launch, Principal Secretary for Agriculture Dr. Kiprono Rono lauded ASK’s commitment to structured growth, emphasizing the crucial role of strategic planning in addressing sectoral challenges. He noted that a clear and well-defined plan is essential for aligning with government priorities, ensuring climate change resilience, and advancing the bottom-up economic model.

“At times, there is a need for order in every sector, and strategic planning plays a vital role in bringing sanity and direction,” Dr. Rono remarked. “This is what the Agricultural Society of Kenya has done, and we commend the initiative. With this strategic plan, ASK is well-positioned to guide the sector forward.”

He further reiterated the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for policy-driven decisions, capacity building, and investment facilitation. He acknowledged the extensive consultations involved in crafting the plan, recognizing the collaborative efforts of stakeholders in shaping a document that truly reflects the aspirations of the sector.

The 2025-2029 Strategic Plan is anchored on a bold vision to position ASK as a world-class agricultural and trade platform. It focuses on three key pillars: enhancing food security through climate-smart agricultural practices, driving job creation by expanding agribusiness opportunities with a focus on youth and women, and strengthening economic resilience through value chain development and trade expansion.

ASK’s National Chairperson, Mrs. Annabel Kiriinya, EBS, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their contributions and reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to advancing Kenya’s agricultural sector. She emphasized the role of partnerships in achieving the plan’s objectives, underscoring the need for collaboration between government, private sector players, and development partners.

“This strategic plan reflects our collective efforts to make agriculture the backbone of our economy. ASK is dedicated to being the agricultural and trade partner of choice, both locally and globally,” said Mrs. Kiriinya. “As we embark on this journey, we invite all stakeholders to collaborate in unlocking the full potential of our agricultural sector.”

The launch of the Strategic Plan sets the stage for a transformative phase in Kenya’s agricultural landscape. With government backing, private sector involvement, and international partnerships, the sector is poised for structured and sustainable growth. The implementation of the plan is expected to enhance food security, promote economic resilience, and strengthen Kenya’s position in global agricultural trade.
