Airtel Money has announced a new partnership with DTB that will enable its customers to make direct payments to DTB’s Till Moja merchants, in a move meant to increase flexible cashless payment options for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The signing of the agreement was done in Nairobi by Airtel Money Managing Director Anne Kinuthia Otieno and DTB Kenya Managing Director Murali Natarajan. The collaboration is expected to streamline transactions for both customers and merchants by integrating Airtel Money services with DTB’s Till Moja platform.
Under the new agreement, Airtel Money customers will be allowed to deposit money from their mobile wallets directly into DTB bank accounts. The service will facilitate easy transfers, bill payments, and account management without necessarily visiting a physical banking hall. This partnership aims to enhance convenience for customers who increasingly use mobile money for daily transactions.
Besides giving customers increased flexibility in making payments, there will be a guaranteed 50 percent cashback in airtime for every Paybill transaction made through Airtel Money. The incentive is expected to drive uptake of the new service while rewarding users for adopting digital financial solutions.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Airtel Money Managing Director Anne Kinuthia Otieno said the partnership would go a long way toward ensuring financial inclusion throughout the country. She observed that the service, by virtue of ensuring faster, easier, and safer transactions, would be of special benefit to people in rural and marginalized areas who mostly encounter barriers to accessing formal banking services.
Otieno noted that the partnership aligns with Airtel Money’s broader goal of expanding digital financial services and ensuring that more Kenyans have access to efficient and affordable transaction channels. She said that SMEs have a lot to gain from the service since it offers them a reliable and convenient means of receiving payment from customers using Airtel Money.
This integration with DTB Till Moja expands the payment ecosystem for merchants by availing another channel through which they can receive money securely while simplifying reconciliation processes. With mobile money continuing to shape Kenya’s digital financial landscape, the partnership is expected to further cement the shift toward cashless transactions. Airtel Kenya said it was confident the new service will empower customers and businesses, giving them greater choice and flexibility, and foster broader economic growth through digital financial inclusion.
