Professor Assaulted for Strange Chanting During Night Prayer!
The professor is accused of performing “scaring rituals at night in the name of cleansing prayer.”
Four individuals charged with assaulting Professor Wilfred Sawanda after accusing him of having a disruptive prayer at night. They stand accused of causing actual bodily harm and are currently being tried in Eldoret court.
Four people have been charged with assaulting a mathematics professor , allegedly due to noisy prayer and strange chantings coming from his compound during a night vigil.
According to the charge sheet, Dr Geoffrey Masika Wechuli an Employee of Kapsabet County Referral Hospital,James Nyamweya Mwamba an employee of Kenya Ordinance Factory ,Maurice Obiero and Ednah Saeyi Khaemba together with others not in court unlawfully assaulted Professor Wilfred Sawanda.
The accused, Dr. Geoffrey Masika Wechuli, Mr. James Nyamweya Mwamba, Mr. Maurice Obiero, and Ms. Ednah Saeyi Khaemba, have denied the charge and been released on bond.
During the defense hearing of the case, Dr. Wechuli admitted that the professor was assaulted by angry neighbors, but denied being involved in the assault himself.
Dr. Khaemba, a medical doctor, acknowledged that the professor was attacked, but said that she did not participate due to her oath to protect life. She also agreed with the medical report presented in court indicating that the professor was injured.
Another witness, Mr. Nyamweya, vehemently denied assaulting the professor, even though he admitted that he was awakened by other neighbors due to the noise. He accused the professor of performing “scaring rituals at night in the name of cleansing prayer.”
The defense hearing of the case was adjourned by Principal Magistrate Mogire Onkoba to January 24, 2024
