The Senate Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare Chaired by West Pokot Senator Julius Murgor Tuesday directed in a report the directorate of criminal investigations DCI to withhold passports of Judy Jepchirchir and Faith Wariga Gichuhi directors of the Firs Choice Recruitment and Consultancy agency Ltd.
The senate further directed that the directors of the said agency should be barred from registering,operating or managing any other recruitment agency or company within the Republic upon the tabling of their report finding on a petition filed by victims of the said agency led by Human Right Activist Kimutai Kirui on 30th November 2022.
The senate committee that has also faulted the National Employment Authority NEA over the manner in which it responded to the hue and cry of the first choice Victims , has also directed the disbandment of the Board of National Employment Authority.
Further the Commission on Administrative Justice and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have been tasked to investigate the involvement of political leaders and Business people and the conduct of state and public officers with regards to the First Choice and Recruitment and Consultancy agency and report back to the senate within three months .
“within three months the office of the director of Public prosecutions and the office of the Inspector general should finalize their investigations on the possible illegalities by the First Choice and Recruitment and Consultancy agency and institute criminal proceedings against the agency and others found culpable of duping over 8,000 Unsuspecting Kenyans millions of shillings with a promise of securing them jobs abroad” Read the Report .
The Ministry of labour and Social protection and the National Employment Authority NEA have also been directed to publish a public notice directing First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy agency to cease its recruitment operations with immediate effect.
“the ministry of Ministry of labour and Social protection should further cease recruitment ,operations and placements by similar recruitment agencies that the public has raised concerns about”
The Committee has recommended the Assets Recovery Agency to repossess properties owned by First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy agency , Its director Judy Jepchirchir and faith Wariga Gichui in the event they do not refund all the monies owed to the petitioners .
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey has the labour committee for staying the course despite the bribery claims and rendered justice to hundreds of victims who lost their monies in the said agency.
“the task now is on the EACC and DPP to ensure First Choice directors and any political leader involved in conning Kenyans should be immediately prosecuted , accounts frozen and monies refunded immediately”stated the vocal senator
