Protests will not bring down cost of food;CS Linturi urges farmers to enhance production

The Ministry of Agriculture has given out more than 600,000 bags of subsidized fertilizers to the North Rift farmers.
The ministry has said the fertilizers are meant to boost the agriculture in the regions to increase the produce.
Speaking in Eldoret at the National Cereal Produce Board on Friday during the flagging off the subsidized fertilizers,Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi promised the farmers of the region that they will deliver more fertilizers to enhance food production.
The Cabinet Secretary has challenged farmers who are yet to be registered to do so.
“Get registered because your data or numbers will inform proper planning by the government in regards to provision of subsidized fertilizer and seeds to the farmers,”CS Linturi urged.
Alongside the Managing Director of National Cereal Produce Board,Managing Director of Kenya seed,CS Linturi has admitted that the ministry is going to make changes in ways of distributing fertilizers to ensure the program runs smoothly.
For those farmers who have issues with registration they are advised to consult their sub-chiefs where they were initially registered or to visit the Agricultural Departments.
He has noted that the ministry will cooperate with the county government in bettering provision of services to the farmers.
Furthermore,the former senator of Meru county has insisted that Agriculture is the only solution to food security and the subsidized fertilizers will see an increase in production.
The Minister however condemned Azimio’s protests and urged farmers to double up their efforts and take advantage of the current rains to grow enough food for the country.
“Protests cannot solve food insecurity nor the high cost of living ,”said Former Senator.
Government availed Sh3.55 billion for subsidized fertilizer program.
